Some survey reported that English is the students' least favorite subject of nine of junior high school subjects. The average score of native Japanese speakers in TOEFL 2010 was 69 and ranked the 104th of speakers of 113 languages.
Why English is so tough for Japanese students? Why the foreign language education in Japan is so miserably unsuccessful?
The answer is not simple.There are many factors that are tangled up in complicated ways. You should take at least three issues into account; the linguistic features of Japanese language itself, the linguistic environment of Japanese society, and the education system.
